Academy where we believe learning can be rewarding and exciting, but not without effort. Students acquiring skills, concepts and information necessary to master a course must put forth effort. Our goal is not to entertain children - parents can do so far more cheaply than sending them to Thomas Heyward Academy.
The philosophy of Thomas Heyward Academy is in accord with the conservative belief that no learning takes place without hard work. The Academy's primary' mission is to educate students in the basic skills. We cannot guarantee each student a quality education, only the opportunity to reach this goal through hard work, discipline and dedication.

Dear Parents and Future Parents,
At my first meeting with the Thomas Heyward Academy Board of Directors 34 years ago, it was clear to me they wanted a truly fine educational institution. The Academy has become one of the top independent schools in our state and a remarkable resource for our community. The curriculum is rigorous by design and geared for the college bound student.
Success for our students is our ultimate goal. The Board, Faculty and Staff realize that in the final analysis a student’s drive, focus and persistence will be the main determinate for success. Helping release the intellectual energy to put forth extra effort or trying a different approach are tasks we take very seriously.
The present Board, Faculty and Staff have the same vision as the school’s founders. We know with your help, understanding and support Thomas Heyward Academy will continue its quest to be the best school possible.
Thank you again for your dedication and sacrifice in providing the best educational opportunity for your child/children.
Respectfully,
John D. Rogers, Jr.
Headmaster
