What's Happening at THA?
At Thomas Heyward Academy, tradition is at the heart of our school culture—and one of the most cherished events each year is the Senior Tea, held in honor of the young ladies of the senior class. This graceful tradition, steeped in Southern charm and elegance, was joyfully celebrated this year on April 6th at the beautiful Cotton Hall Plantation in Yemassee, SC.
The Senior Tea offers a special moment to pause and reflect, recognizing the journey of these remarkable young women as they prepare to graduate and step into the next exciting chapter of their lives. Dressed in their finest, the senior girls gathered for an afternoon of fellowship, refreshments, and heartfelt conversation.
Wednesday, March 26, 2025, will forever be remembered as a groundbreaking day for Thomas Heyward Academy Athletics. On this historic occasion, THA proudly launched its inaugural track & field team, competing for the very first time at Porter Gaud in Charleston, SC. This wasn’t just a competition; it was the beginning of an exciting new era for our athletic program and student-athletes.
Our young team stepped onto the track with determination and heart, ready to make their mark. Competing in seven out of the eighteen scheduled events, they demonstrated resilience, sportsmanship, and the true spirit of the Rebels. Even our youngest competitors, including two sixth graders, rose to the occasion and showcased their potential.
Thomas Heyward Academy is excited to welcome Mackenzie Goins as the new Varsity Volleyball Head Coach! A former collegiate player at the University of Tennessee, Coach Goins brings elite experience, passion, and leadership to THA Volleyball.

We also extend our heartfelt thanks to Coach Alicia Crosby for her dedication and contributions to THA Volleyball.
Thomas Heyward Academy’s 6th and 7th graders recently had a valuable lesson on internet and social media safety, led by Stephanie Hite from the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office and Detective Laura Rutland. These experts shared crucial insights on protecting personal information, making smart online choices, and understanding the risks of digital sharing.
We are grateful for their time and dedication in empowering our students to navigate the online world safely and responsibly. Read more about this important lesson and how we’re creating a safer digital space for our THA community!
Thomas Heyward Academy is thrilled to participate in Read Across America from March 3rd-7th, celebrating the magic of reading with a week full of fun, themed activities inspired by Dr. Seuss! This nationwide event encourages students to develop a lifelong love for books, sparking creativity and imagination. From crazy socks to book character dress-up day, our students will engage in exciting activities that highlight the power of reading.

Thomas Heyward Academy students recently brought Shakespeare to life with an innovative, AI-driven learning experience called Macbeth’s Mind! Guided by High School English Teacher Lisa Fantacone, students engaged in interactive conversations with AI-powered Lady Macbeth, exploring her motivations, ambition, and guilt in a fresh and modern way.
This unique approach deepened their understanding of Macbeth’s key themes while making Shakespeare more accessible and engaging. Read more about how AI is transforming literature studies at THA!
